A friend told me about Escaping The Gray, and I admit I was skeptical at first. I'm not a big one for leaving reviews, nor am I an attorney or connected to the legal profession in any way, so I wasn't sure how relevant it would be to me. Then my friend gave it to me as a gift. Since I'm not one to turn down a free book, I gave it a try.I was really surprised to find out how "human" John Rizvi seemed. His writing is honest, clear and refreshingly normal, especially given the usual biases about attorneys. He didn't self-aggrandize; in fact, he went a long way in the other direction. From being a nerdy law student to one of the top patent attorneys in the nation, he describes his journey with humor, gentle self-mockery, and lingers more on his blunders and mistakes (some of which are laugh-out-loud funny to read about!) than his triumphs.
Throughout the book, his love for his chosen profession, his family and the inventors he serves shines through. He describes these people as his heroes, and steers well away from the stereotype of a self-made man. As I went through his journey with him in Escaping the Gray, I found myself wondering how I could do the same in my own life. After finishing it, I feel that if he could do it, given everything he had working against him, I can do it too. The roadblocks he hit really resonated with me and brought me into his world. I feel like he was talking directly to me, as a person, not as a reader, and his anecdotes are by turns funny and heartbreaking.

I enjoyed this inspiring book by John Rizvi - truly gave me that push that almost everyone needs......if you are going to do something, be passionate about it, finish what you started & follow your dreams!!
It wasn't what I thought as it was much more of personal experiences with 'escaping the gray'. However buy the end I found it to be extremely motivating for anyone trying to follow their dreams.
I struggle with this grey area a lot so I was able to resonate deeply with the book. I know I was born to invent great things for entrepreneurs, I've just been met with distractions, disappointments and resistance. The book has helped me see that I'm not the only one that struggles with this. I'm more encouraged now to LAUNCH!!!
Escaping the Gray was an easy read and extremely inspirational for anyone who is interested in pursuing their dreams and the courage to take the risk. I would highly recommend this book for any level entrepreneurs.
Its definitely an inspirational book for inventors. John Rizvi's advice about reprogramming your brain for success is excellent for anyone in a leadership position. His story of self motivation and determination is good stuff if you are trying to manage others and motivate them into action. I am hoping 2017 is a turn around year for my business and this was the perfect read - I will be using his quotes and stories during staff meetings.
What a fun and inspiring book! The author shares his personal stories growing from a young and inexperienced, yet very promising, patent attorney to a brave founder of his own patent attorney firm. Some stories truly made me laugh! Others left me thinking. I would really recommend this book to anyone seeking motivation to escape the gray of everyday life and working for non-motivated others.
I enjoy stories about people that break free from the 9 to 5 grind to follow their dreams. I also enjoy stories about people that start businesses from zero, so this book was extra good for me.
The author chronicles his journey from law school to his dream job to leaving his dream job to start his own company. The book is written in a light, easy to read style. It is a quick read. The author also takes the time to set up each chapter with a quote at the start to give an overview of what the chapter is about.
As a business owner for the last 16 years, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to start a business and every current business owner- whether you are doing great in your business or you're about to throw in the towel. Take the time to earn from this author's experience.
